To celebrate World Oceans Day (a United Nations-designated and globally recognized holiday), Citizen has released a capsule collection of five limited-edition watches, which feature dials inspired by the oceans that connect the different continents and unite our world. The new Citizen UNITE with BLUE collection includes a classic Promaster Dive model, a pair of feature-packed Attesa watches, and two elegant women's pieces from the xC and CITIZEN L lineups. Additionally, all five of the new Citizen UNITE with BLUE watches are powered by the brand's Eco-Drive movements and all are fitted with dials in a striking and asymmetric pattern of green and blue, treated with a structural color ink created by Fujifilm Corporation, that pays tribute to the world's oceans and the marine life that inhabit them.
The first of the five models is the Citizen Promaster Dive UNITE with BLUE BN0166-01L, which takes the brand's classic solar-powered dive watch and gives it a dial and bezel insert that both lean into the UNITE with BLUE collection's vibrant green and blue colorway. This means you get the same fan-favorite stainless steel case that measures 44mm in diameter by 11.5mm thick, with a flat mineral glass crystal fitted to its upper surface and a solid screw-down caseback. The black rubber strap is made from biomass-based polyurethane, which includes plant-based materials to help underline Citizen's commitment to sustainability, while a signed screw-down crown at the 4 o’clock location helps guarantee an ISO-certified 200 meters of water resistance.
The dial of the Citizen Promaster Dive UNITE with BLUE BN0166-01L is manufactured from 100% recycled polycarbonate materials, and it uses a pigment-free ink to create a variety of different ocean-inspired blue and green hues that blend into each other with a subtle gradient effect. To complement its dial, the outer rotating bezel ring of the watch is fitted with an anodized aluminum insert that echoes the blue and green tones present throughout its dial. Powered by the Citizen Cal.E168 with an accuracy of +/-15 seconds per month, the Promaster Dive UNITE with BLUE edition is accompanied by an official retail price of $475 USD, and it will be produced as a limited edition of 7,000 pieces worldwide.
The first of the two high-end and tech-forward Attesa models is the Citizen Attesa UNITE with BLUE AT8188-64L, which features a case made from the brand's Super Titanium alloy that measures 42mm in diameter by 10.82mm thick. Fitted to the top of the case is a flat sapphire crystal surrounded by a black DLC-finished bezel with engraved markings for its worldtime function, while the reverse side of the watch receives a solid titanium caseback, which screws down to help provide 100 meters of water resistance. As the AT8188-64L is the chronograph-quipped Attesa model from Citizen's new UNITE with BLUE collection, it features a pair of pushers flanking its crown at 3 o’clock, while the lugs are completed by a solid-link bracelet that is made from Super Titanium to match the case.
Powering the Citizen Attesa UNITE with BLUE AT8188-64L is the brand's Cal. H800 Eco-Drive movement, which is solar-powered with radio-controlled atomic timekeeping, and it also offers a chronograph, worldtime feature with 26 time zones, a perpetual calendar with both day and date indicators, 12/24-hour timekeeping formats, and a power reserve indicator. Presenting this wealth of information is a three-register dial with a date window at 3 o’clock, and just like the rest of the models from Citizen's new UNITE with BLUE collection, it features an asymmetric blue and green colorway intended to celebrate the world's oceans and marine environments. Accompanied by an official retail price of $1,995 USD, the Attesa UNITE with BLUE AT8188-64L is the most expensive model from this recent capsule collection, and it will be produced as a limited edition of 2,400 examples.
The second Attesa model from the new UNITE with BLUE series is the Citizen Attesa Atomic Time UNITE with BLUE CB0215-18L, which features a black DLC-finished Super Titanium case that measures 42.5mm diameter by 10.1mm thick. The blue and green ocean-inspired dial is protected by a flat sapphire crystal surrounded by a fixed bezel with world time markings, while the reverse side of the watch receives a solid screw-down titanium caseback to help ensure its 100 meters of water resistance. Additionally, to match the black DLC finish of the case, the integrated lugs of the Attesa Atomic Time UNITE with BLUE CB0215-18L are fitted with a black leather strap that is completed by a titanium folding clasp with a black DLC-finish.
While the Citizen Attesa Atomic Time UNITE with BLUE CB0215-18L is technically a three-handed watch with a date window at the 3 o’clock position, it is powered by the brand's Cal.H145 Eco-Drive movement, which means that in addition to running on light, it also offers the added functionality of radio-controlled atomic timekeeping, a world time feature with 26 time zones, and a perpetual calendar for its date display. To help access this functionality, an additional pusher sticks out from the side of the case at the 4 o’clock location, while a small push-piece is recessed into the case at 2 o’clock to help facilitate the setting process. The new Attesa Atomic Time UNITE with BLUE CB0215-18L will be accompanied by an official retail price of $1,025 USD, and it will be produced as a limited edition of 2,200 examples worldwide.
The first of the two women's models from the brand's UNITE with BLUE collection is the Citizen L Bianca UNITE with BLUE EW5591-51L, which features a rectangular stainless steel case that measures 21.5mm in diameter by 7.5mm thick. A curved sapphire crystal is fitted to the dial side of the watch, a snap-on caseback is attached to the reverse side, and water resistance for the Bianca UNITE with BLUE edition comes in at 50 meters to protect against all forms of daily incidental contact. Access to the movement is granted by a simple crown at the 3 o’clock location, while the lugs of the EW5591-51L are fitted with a stainless steel bracelet that is completed by a butterfly-style folding clasp.
While the watch is powered by the Cal.B035 Eco-Drive movement, which offers an accuracy rating of +/-15 seconds per month, the true centerpiece of the Citizen L Bianca UNITE with BLUE EW5591-51L is its dial, which uses 100% recycled polycarbonate materials and is adorned with two diamonds set near the 7 o’clock location. The surface of the dial is treated with the same structural color ink to produce the various green and blue hues that unite the five watches from this capsule collection. Created as a limited edition of 1,700 pieces worldwide, the new Citizen L Bianca UNITE with BLUE EW5591-51L is accompanied by an official retail price of $525 USD.
The final model from Citizen's new UNITE with BLUE collection is the Citizen xC UNITE with BLUE ES9460-61L, which is an elegant and refined women's timepiece crafted from Super Titanium that is fitted with a matching Super Titanium integrated bracelet. The case of the ES9460-61L measures 29mm in diameter by 8.81mm thick, and the top is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal, while the reverse side receives a solid snap-on caseback. The focal point of the Citizen xC UNITE with BLUE edition is its dial, which features a blue and green surface like the rest of the collection that is further adorned with four diamonds, a subtle pattern, and precision-cut applied elements that are intended to be reminiscent of bubbles rising to the surface.
While the Citizen xC UNITE with BLUE ES9460-61L is an elegant three-handed watch with a circular date window at the 3 o’clock location, it is powered by the advanced Cal.H060 Eco-Drive movement, which features radio-controlled atomic timekeeping and can be synchronized to 26 different time zones throughout the world. Crafted from lightweight and modern Super Titanium and powered by a highly functional radio-controlled solar movement, the Citizen xC UNITE with BLUE edition represents a highly modern and refined timepiece with a high degree of functionality. The new Citizen xC UNITE with BLUE ES9460-61 is accompanied by an official retail price of $1,495 USD, and it will be produced as a limited edition of 1,700 pieces worldwide.
Between its use of recycled materials and a strong emphasis on solar-powered movements to reduce battery waste, Citizen proudly places an emphasis on sustainability, and its new UNITE with BLUE collection is just one part of the famous Japanese watchmaker's various efforts and initiatives. Ranging from robust divers to advanced radio-controlled worldtimers and even elegant dress watches, Citizen's new UNITE with BLUE collection features a diverse offering of different styles of timepieces, while all of them feature dials that are intended to serve as a wearable reminder to take care of the oceans that unite this plant.
